ODM elections called off after chaos erupts

Outgoing Secretary General Anyang' Nyong'o called off indefinitely ODM party elections  following chaos that erupted at Kasarani.

" The elections have been cancelled and a decision will be given soon as to the next step, outgoing Secretary Generak Anyang Nyong'o announced.

 

Chaos erupted at the Orange Democratic Movement elections in Kasarani after disagreements over new positions created in the party. Delegates led by nominated MP Isaac Mwaura stormed the venue claiming names of some candidates were omitted from the ballot papers.

Violent youth turned tables and destroyed ballot boxes and tore papers before armed police entered the venue to quel the chaos.

Delegates from the coast had shown their displeasure at the move by the party to add new positions saying it was a ploy to hand losers a way into the top brass.
